Ms. Inanc Yazar was appointed Director of Internal Audit on 9 July, 2018.  Ms. Yazar supports the strategic orientations of the Secretary-General and assist him in helping the Organisation accomplish its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to assessing and improving the effectiveness of risk management, control and governance processes including monitoring the proper application of the provisions of internal control systems in accordance with international best practices. She provides the Secretary-General and his Office with independent and objective assurance and advisory services designed to add value and improve the Organisation’s operations.

 

Ms. Yazar comes from the Canadian federal government where she has been serving as the Chief Audit Executive for the Department of Justice since 2015. Prior to this role, Ms. Yazar held the positions of: Director of Governance at the Department of Natural Resources Canada (2013-2015) and Director of Audit Operations at Infrastructure Canada (2010-2013). In these roles, she provided direction to numerous audit and advisory projects to support the important mandate of these departments on areas such as energy, forestry, sustainable development and infrastructure as well as managing relations with external auditors such as the Office of the Auditor General, the Office of the Procurement Ombudsman, and the Public Service Commission. From 2001-2010, Ms. Yazar held progressively senior roles in the Canadian federal government in both finance and internal audit, and worked on developing multi-year, multi-million dollar capital plans, investment strategies, business cases, audits and consulting projects.

 

Ms. Yazar is the co-founder of the Canadian Federal Public Service Executive Women’s network, which provides a venue for female executives as well as the next generation of female leaders.

 

Ms. Yazar is also the proud sponsor of an interdepartmental network of auditors created by her team which supports horizontal collaboration and information sharing among 42 different departments and agencies across the Canadian government.

 

A Canadian and a Turkish national, Ms. Yazar spent the early years of her career in Turkey where she was employed in the corporate finance function of multi-national companies. Ms. Yazar holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Management from the Orta Dogu Teknik University (Turkey). She also has certifications in accounting, auditing and risk management: Certified General Accountant Designation - CGA (Canada), Certified Public Accountant Designation - CPA (Canada), Internal Auditor Certification – CIA (USA) and Certified Risk Management Professional Designation - CRMA (USA) from the Institute of Internal Auditors. Ms. Yazar has served on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Financial Management Institute (2016-2018).
