During the transition from the old OECD Online Bookshop to the new OECD Online Bookshop, we have had to temporarily reroute all traffic to our fulfillment company, Turpin Distribution's Online Bookshop for the online ordering of OECD publications. On that site, you will have to do a search to find desired publications. During this period, we are unable to deliver PDF files to customers' bookshelves. The new OECD Online Bookshop should be available soon.

Please note that all cover images now link to the Read and Share view of the full publication. From that view, you can click on "Buy" to purchase the book on the OECD Online Bookshop or "OECD iLibrary" to access premium features.

A closer look at gender gaps in education and beyond
“In a world in search of growth, women will help find it, if they face a level playing field instead of an insidious conspiracy.” Christine Lagarde, managing director of the International Monetary Fund, didn’t mince words last week when she called for dismantling the legal barriers that prevent many women around the world from participating in their economies. She framed her argument in economic terms, saying that a previous study found that having as many women as men in the labour force could boost economic growth by 5% in the United States, 9% in Japan and 34% in Egypt. Targeted policies to eradicate poverty
Poverty has been halved in less than 25 years worldwide. The enormous progress over the past few decades is mainly due to rapid economic growth in the South. China’s economy grew by 10% for decades and 600 million people were consequently brought out of poverty.
Economic growth in poor nations is crucial. But it will not be possible to end extreme poverty by 2030 through economic growth alone, even if African countries grow at 10% for the next 15 years. Poverty eradication will require specific policies targeting the most vulnerable groups. The remaining poor tend to be women, minorities, indigenous peoples and the disabled. Poor people are increasingly living in the countryside and in countries in conflict. Read more

Do we really have a good picture of women’s well-being?
Lack of data limits the ability to measure women’s conditions in an accurate and comprehensive way, and to make informed decisions about how women and girls fare. The post-2015 development agenda will translate into an increased demand for gender statistics that are regularly produced and provide solid and objective evidence. However, there are many data gaps in national and international monitoring of gender inequality, particularly in less-traditional areas of official statistics. Countries face many challenges in mainstreaming the gender dimension into data production, analysis and dissemination. Read more

Climate change: Price carbon now, before low-cost oil says “ciao”
It’s easy to dream about holidays in far-off exotic islands, especially with current global petrol prices. A sustained low oil price has allowed many of us to put away a little more of that paycheck and think seriously about buying an iWatch or taking that much-deserved break.
As we fantasize about wriggling our toes in the sand or finally being able to wear a phone, big oil companies like BP and Exxon Mobil are scrambling to adjust to this loss in revenue. BP recently announced that it will freeze pay increases in 2015 for its 84,000 staff members and lay off 300 employees. Fossil-fuel giants have had to make drastic changes to reflect that oil is now worth $50-$60 per barrel, rather than over $100 per barrel. Read more

Japan: Marking the anniversary of a tragedy
Exactly four years ago, on 11 March 2011, a violent earthquake struck eastern Japan. The tsunami that ensued devastated the inland up to 10km and put the Fukushima nuclear power plant at risk, forcing it out of action. The result was a humanitarian and environmental crisis. OECD Observer article

G20: Global recovery in progress, but growth uneven
A global recovery is in progress, but growth is uneven, while emerging markets slow down, G20 finance ministers and central bank governors said after their meeting in Istanbul 9-10 February. OECD Observer article
