Now more than ever, migration policy needs to be comprehensive and co-ordinated

OECD countries are facing an unprecedented refugee crisis. In 2014, more than 800 000 asylum applications were recorded, an historical high, but the figure for 2015 is expected to be even higher. Read more

Air pollution and diesel: from theory to practice

The current Volkswagen diesel emissions scandal highlights the difficult reality of making the transition to a low-carbon economy. It also highlights the growing need for governments to make smart policies, based on actual costs. Read more

Corporate Accountability and the UN Sustainable Development Goals: How Responsible Business Conduct could and should play a decisive role

The UN has now agreed to the Sustainable Development Goals, a set of 17 goals which will define the post-2015 development agenda. It is recognised that the private sector has an important role to play in economic and social development. Read more

Women taking risks: closing the gender gap in entrepreneurship

Education post-2015: A currency to invest in

The world is no longer divided between rich and well-educated countries and poor and badly educated ones.
Importantly, when it comes to education, the post-2015 agenda for sustainable development is no longer just about providing more people with more years of schooling, but about making sure that individuals acquire a solid foundation of knowledge in key disciplines; that they develop creative, critical thinking and collaborative skills; and that they build character attributes, such as mindfulness, curiosity, courage and resilience. Progress for women and girls in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

The UN Sustainable Development Goals could be a real game changer for gender issues, with wins in fraught areas such as reproductive rights. But there will be challenges, and opposing voices, to contend with in the years ahead. OECD Observer article
