    The tax wedge for the average single worker in Canada increased by 0.1 percentage points from 30.6 in 2017 to 30.7 in 2018. The OECD average tax wedge in 2018 was 36.1 (2017, 36.2).

    OECD will follow Canadian proceedings addressing allegations of political interference in foreign bribery prosecution

    The OECD Working Group on Bribery is concerned by recent allegations of interference in the prosecution of SNC-Lavalin that are subject to proceedings in the House of Commons Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights. The Canadian engineering and construction group is the subject of an ongoing prosecution into allegations of the bribery of Libyan officials to obtain a Can$ 58-million contract to restore a water pipeline.

    The tax-to-GDP ratio in Canada decreased by 0.5 percentage points, from 32.7% in 2016 to 32.2% in 2017. The corresponding figures for the OECD average were an increase of 0.2 percentage points from 34.0% to 34.2% over the same period.

    Resistance proportions for eight antibiotic-bacterium pairs in Canada have been stable around 14% between 2005 and 2015, and are not predicted to increase by 2030, should current trends in antibiotic consumption, population and economic growth continue into the future. Resistance proportions in Canada were lower than the OECD average in 2015 (17%).
