The ADB OECD Initiative’s regional anti-corruption conferences are an important supplement to countries’ reform efforts under the Action Plan. The conferences foster exchange of experience and co-operation among key stakeholders in the region; they provide countries with an opportunity to evaluate progress made in curbing corruption, and to discuss problems they encountered; they also provide a forum to expand and exchange knowledge on key issues and tools to fight corruption. The initial three conferences organized in the framework of the ADB/OECD Initiative in Manila (1999), Seoul (2000) and Tokyo (2001) established the Initiative and the Anti-Corruption Action Plan, the Initiative's main instrument for its further work. The fourth Regional Anti-Corruption Conference held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 2003 marked the end of the first implementation cycle under the Action Plan. The fifth conference was held in Beijing, China, on 28-30 September 2005. In addition to the Regional Anti-Corruption Conferences for Asia and the Pacific, the endorsing countries deliberate future action of the Initiative in the framework of the regularly held meetings of the Initiative's Steering Group.
