Proceedings of the ADB OECD Workshop on Combating Corruption, held in Manila 1999

In a bid to counter the malign influence of corruption in the Asia-Pacific region, ADB and OECD sponsored a workshop on Combating Corruption in Asian and Pacific Economies held at the ADB headquarters from 29 September to 1 October 1999. The meeting provided a forum for participants - senior policymakers and government officials and leading representatives from the business sector and civil society in ADB and OECD member countries - to share their views on and experiences in fighting corruption on the national and international levels.

This publication covers a broad set of issues ranging from corruption as a challenge to good governance and economic development to anticorruption actions at national, regional, and international levels. It provides policymakers, business, civil-society organizations, and other stakeholders with an assessment of specific anti-corruption strategies already in place and explores new approaches. Moreover, it serves as a key element in the network building and information sharing which is essential to successful coordination and cooperation among key players in the reform effort.
