Knowledge Commitment Action

From knowledge to commitment. From commitment to action.

Citizens and leaders know about corruption; about its causes and the conditions under which it proliferates. They know first hand that corruption jeopardizes security and economic growth, perpetuates poverty, and exacerbates social inequities. The knowledge has prompted the governments of more than half the world's population to commit to working together to fight corruption under the umbrella of the Asian Development Bank (ADB)/Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Anti-Corruption Initiative for Asia and the Pacific. Civil society and the business community have joined them in this commitment, and together, the 25 member countries of the ADB/OECD Anti-Corruption Initiative for Asia and the Pacific are taking action against corruption in Asia and the Pacific.

The Fifth Regional Anti-Corruption Conference of the ADB/OECD Anti-Corruption Initiative for Asia and the Pacific catalyzed innovative anti-corruption strategies and reform tailored to the needs and contexts of Asian-Pacific countries. From fighting corruption in humanitarian aid and reconstruction operations to the role of public opinion surveys in shaping anti-corruption reform; from addressing ethical issues in the public and corporate sectors and conflict of interest to enhancing mutual legal assistance to prevent the corrupt from using borders to shield themselves and their profits from investigation and prosecution. This publication reflects the comprehensive discussions, debates, and conclusions on these and other pressing issues relevant to the fight against corruption in Asia and the Pacific and beyond that took place at the Conference held in Beijing, People's Republic of China, in September 2005.
