The OECD supports countries of Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia (EECCA) to reconcile their environment and economic goals thus addressing the heavy environmental legacy of the Soviet model of development. This support is provided within the framework of the Task Force for the Implementation of the Environmental Action Programme (the EAP Task Force). The OECD has worked with Ukraine since its independence, and our collaboration has gradually intensified and deepened. The goal of this meeting is to deepen our exchanges on the needed reforms in Ukraine and ensure the effectiveness of our recently signed OECD Action Plan for Ukraine.
The OECD will hold its first “Ukraine Day”, a high-level consultation to discuss how the international community can support Ukraine in meeting its policy challenges and implementing ambitious structural and institutional reforms.
Ministers expressed full support for the OECD’s global relations strategy, as an essential element to increase its impact and relevance. This strategy has been the centrepiece of Secretary-General Angel Gurría’s vision to transform the Organisation into a more inclusive, global policy network and a prime forum for evidence-based policy exchange and global standard setting.
This project supports Ukraine in its fight against corruption with a view to to strengthening the country's legal and institutional capacity to effectively detect, investigate and prosecute high-profile and complex corruption.
I am delighted that my first visit to the OECD Headquarters coincides with a milestone in relations between Ukraine and the OECD – signing of the Joint Action Plan. I believe that realization of this Action Plan will assist Ukraine in advancing the reforms process and will help to bring our country to the OECD standards.
It is a great honour to welcome His Excellency President Poroshenko to the OECD. This is the first time that the President of Ukraine visits our organisation. The “Ukraine Action Plan” sets out an ambitious and transformational work programme that is designed to help Ukraine bring about the necessary reforms to overcome current economic challenges and ultimately build a better future for the Ukrainian people.
