Open Government

Open government is a culture of governance that promotes the principles of transparency, integrity, accountability and stakeholder participation in support of democracy and inclusive growth.

People across the world are calling for more openness in government and expect policies and services to address their concerns and be tailored to their needs. Open government is a hallmark of contemporary democratic practice, key for renewing citizens’ relationships with public officials and to regaining their trust in government.

Principles

The OECD Recommendation of the Council on Open Government identifies four key principles based on more than 15 years of work on open government:

  • Transparency
  • Integrity
  • Accountability
  • Stakeholder participation
