Deltion College

Entrepreneurship Deltion College
Rationale and general information
Deltion College is a vocational school in Zwolle (The Netherlands). It offers education to 13,000 students (youth and adults) and it employs around 1,100 people. Deltion offers a challenging environment for students, staff and partners. Our core values are reliability, transparency and social responsibility. We provide all the education and skills required so that each individual achieves its full potential and will become - and remain – ready for the current labour market.

In total we offer 225 studies from one location (campus). The education at Deltion is split up into three domains:
  • Economy & Services
  • Healthcare, Welfare & Sports
  • Technology & Design

An important factor for the success of companies is the degree of external collaboration and co-creation. This requires entrepreneurial employees and therefore we expect our students as well as our staff to demonstrate an entrepreneurial attitude during and after their study. Also, we see a growing group of students that embraces entrepreneurship. Therefore, entrepreneurship is one of the strategic lines of Deltion. Deltion has the ambition to offer all students the opportunity to explore this exciting field of entrepreneurship.
The individual program
We offer our students the opportunity to do an entrepreneur scan (intake, scan, discussion of results and interpretation). This scan provides the students(more) knowledge about their entrepreneurial skills and competences. As a follow up, students start a series of coaching sessions with an entrepreneur/coach to increase their skills and competences. After these sessions the student can decide to write a bank proof business case under the guidance of his/her coach. We offer the student an online platform to write the case. If students lack the knowledge to write a good business case, they can sign up for various (master)classes (marketing, finance, law, organization, etc.).

Group programs
In our group programs we describe two curricular lines:
  • Entrepreneurial attitude
  • Entrepreneurial skills

Each study offers a program to develop entrepreneurial attitude. Many studies offer only part of a program of entrepreneurial skills. A student will receive (when the required results are achieved) an entrepreneurship certificate at the end of both programs (individual and group).

For example, we offer a program for students to run a student company. Students develop their entrepreneurial attitude and skills in a practical way (learning by doing). On our campus we have various opportunities where they can run their business and sell their products.

Program for employees
For employees there is a program that determines their entrepreneurial attitude and skills. Participants do a specific scan and follow two sessions. Both sessions are about how to realize strategic connections inside and outside the organization. Also the theoretical framework of entrepreneurship will be discussed in detail.
Success factors
